About Landrover

Cunningham said that his image for Landrover was, “people moving in different landscapes. American, perhaps in the sense that we move in our country–across varied spaces–with varied backgrounds.” His original idea was to change the dancing area, or to perform the piece in front of a film projecting a continuously changing landscape, although in the performance there was no décor. Jasper Johns designed the costumes, which were tops and tights in various colors. Similar to Signals, the music was a collaborative effort by Cage, David Tudor, and Gordon Mumma. ― David Vaughan
